JOB SUMMARY:

Assist in meal preparation, service and clean-up while providing a safe environment by maintaining the kitchen and cafeteria areas in compliance with federal, state, local and accreditation / licensing standards. Assist the Food Service Manager in supervising students participating in vocational training.

Activities include, but are not limited to, preparing and serving meals, catering, washing dishes, kitchen clean-up, and following cleaning schedule.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

Compliance:

  1. Assure that all client environments are in compliance with minimum standards
  2. Maintain the kitchen and cafeteria areas in compliance with federal, state, local and accreditation / licensing standards
  3. Maintain client safety guidelines
  4. Assure that clients are free from neglect, abuse, and/or exploitation
  5. Report allegations of neglect and abuse to TDFPS and/or Executive Director or his designee
  6. Maintain client confidentiality
  7. Assure that all clients are properly supervised and cared for according to BAC Policy
  8. Adhere to employee rules and company policy
  9. Report concerns to a supervisor
  10. Relay information to supervisor and / or appropriate staff
  11. Follow through with supervisor requests / assignments
  12. Ensure that BAC is a harassment-free work place


Kitchen Activities:

  1. Maintain current Food Handler's Card
  2. Maintain kitchen and cafeteria areas in compliance with policies and standards
  3. Prepare and serve hot food line and salad bar including drinks
  4. Ensure that client specific meals are prepared in compliance with orders
  5. Ensure that meals are served on time
  6. Wash dishes
  7. Follow cleaning schedules (daily, weekly, monthly, etc.)
  8. Ensure that all dangerous materials / equipment and chemicals are kept from client access (i.e. keeping knives locked, closing half door when utilizing dangerous equipment or when clients are present, etc.)
  9. Supervise vocational students as they assist in the kitchen
  10. Oversee meal preparation and kitchen activities in the absence of the Food Service Manager
  11. Stock, restock and notify Food Service Manager of need for maintaining inventory

Personnel File:
  1. Maintain continuing education as appropriate including licenses, certification and training hours
  2. Keep personnel folder in compliance


Other:
  1. Any other assigned duties as outlined by Program Director or Executive Director

  • Ability to read recipes and follow directions
  • Ability to use commercial equipment (initial training will be provided)

  • Recognize safe and unsafe conditions


WORKING CONDITIONS:
  • Working in the kitchen standing the majority of the day
  • At times preparing / serving meals outdoors during special occasions
  • Exposure to heat from appliances
  • Clients may exhibit self-injurious or aggressive behaviors
  • Tobacco-free / smoke-free environment


RISKS:
  • Injuries related to equipment use
  • Use/Misuse of chemicals
  • Exposure to body fluids
  • Exposure to open wounds of others
  • Risk of physical aggression, including human bites, by a student
  • Contagious diseases

Back Support for Lifting Gloves during serving

2. Must pass Drug and Alcohol Testing (initial and on-going)

3. Meet licensing standards regarding TB
